Silver sterlizers
The SilSter 168 Fresh Water Silver Ion Sterilizer is a fresh water sterilization system based on a well proven method of using silver ions for disinfection. The system automatically sterilizes the water in the fresh water holding tank without the need for crew interaction and requires practically no maintenance. It is also capable of sterilizing bunkered water without manual setting of current and time.
Product description
The long-lasting sterilizing effect of silver ions does not change the taste, smell, or colour of the water. The system is designed to avoid the piping corrosion normally associated with chlorination and complies with the requirements of European Community Directive 80/778/EEC.
The SilSter 168 operates using a silver ion injection chamber containing a silver electrode. Water is circulated from the hydrophore system through the injection chamber and returned to the fresh water holding tank for dilution. When the control unit receives a signal from the fresh water maker product line indicating that fresh water is being produced, it opens a solenoid valve to initiate water flow through the injection chamber and applies electrical current to the silver electrode. The electrical current corresponds to the fresh water production rate to inject the required amount of silver ions into the fresh water holding tank.
